Pakistanis abroad are often renowned for their commercial expertise but people may be forgiven for forgetting that many Pakistanis have excelled in other fields as well including the fine arts. One such individual is Mr Amjad Ahmad who is an artist and freelance journalist based in Germany but whose reputation for innovation and artistic excellence is recognised throughout the world.

Born in Lahore, Amjad Ahmad did not come to the arts until comparatively late in life. His creativity only began to emerge during his studies in the late 1970's at Germany's Darmstadt Technical University. It was here that he began his innovative approach to the visual arts and developed his passion for visual symbols, lettering, diagrams and drawings.

Out of this enthusiasm grew his interest in developing the new technique of "Photo-Painting" which has subsequently earned him numerous awards and accolades around the country.

His new technique has brought praise from a wide variety of sources who see it as an innovative and exciting new art form. Some have seen his abstract experiments with light and shade as expressing a deeper spiritual experience.

Since this time he has an executive member of the Federal Union of artists in Germany, an Executive Member of the German-Pakistan Forum, and a senior member of the Federal Union of journalists.

He has won the William blake prize in 1988 and was made "the artist of the year" in 1992 by the Research Institute of Visual Arts in Germany. He is also the first Pakistani to have his name listed in Who's Who in Germany. In addition his name and a brief biography are given in the exclusive "Golden Book of Germany".

Aside from his artistic achievements he is also renowned for his journalistic career. In addition he is also fluent in English, German and Arabic.
